Fun and Fancy; Make a Purse

One day workshop
All skill levels

Create stunning purses that can be finished in practically no time. Make your own in class, embellish it with trims, ribbons, buttons, bows, lace, fabric, found objects and then dive into the wonderful world of beads! We will learn what beads to buy, how to sew them and how to make your own lavish beaded dangles and fringes. See my book

Supply List

  • The Two Hour Tulip Purse pattern by Janice D. Pope - required for class (available in class)
  • ½ yd fabric for purse & straps
  • ½ yd lining fabric
  • 1/3 yd Fusible fleece or fusible batting
  • ½ yd Fusible interfacing such as DecorBond heavyweight, 44" wide
  • Rotary cutter, mat and ruler (medium size)
  • Sewing machine
  • Walking foot (Frequently an extra item)
  • Seam ripper
  • Thread snips
  • Fabric scissors
  • Thread to match the purse fabric
  • Size 75/11 quilting needles
  • Pins
  • Hand sewing needles
  • Thimble
  • Small trash bag
  • Paper, pen & pencil
  • Nymo or other beading thread

If Not Provided by the Guild or Shop

  • Extension cord
  • Iron and ironing surface

Optional, but nice

  • Chair cushion
  • Velcro
Other Supplies:
Embellishments: You do not need to bring all of the following, but remember 'variety is the spice of life', fill a gallon zip lock bag with your favorites. It is hard to know in advance what you will need, so remember that there will be lots of extra stuff. Thread - Embroidery floss or pearl cotton, beads, buttons, brass charms, small pieces of ribbon - 1/16" wide to 1" wide, trim, lace or lace motifs, doilies, cording or found objects. One 1" shank button.
